On April 4, 2017, the Institut Choiseul hosted Saïd Ibrahimi, CEO of Casablanca Finance City, to discuss the financial future of Africa. This meeting highlighted the crucial role of South-South cooperation and strategic partnerships in building a competitive and sustainable financial hub at the heart of the continent.
On April 4th, 2017, Institut Choiseul had the honor of hosting Saïd Ibrahimi, the leader of Casablanca Finance City (CFC), an ambitious pan-African financial hub. CFC aims to be a catalyst for financial convergence in West Africa and has already distinguished itself by attracting nearly 80 multinational companies.
A graduate of École Centrale, Mr. Saïd Ibrahimi has held high-level positions in banking and public service, notably at BNP, BMCI, Moroccan Bank for Africa and the Middle East (BMAO), and Caisse Nationale de Crédit Agricole (CNCA). Appointed as the kingdom’s General Treasurer in 2003, he has also forged numerous alliances in West Africa, convinced that South-South cooperation is essential for building a credible and competitive financial hub.CFC faces several major challenges, including the need to create an environment conducive to investmentin an increasingly competitive regional context, strengthen partnerships with key continental players, and adapt to global economic changes. How can CFC stand out among other African financial hubs? What role can South-South cooperation play in developing this dynamic, and how will African economic policies influence it?
This meeting allowed a reflection on the crucial importance of integrating South-South partnerships, considered an essential condition for the sustainability of a financial hub within the pan-African financial zone. African leaders and financial institutions must join forces to create a favorable environment for investments while supporting local development. These issues raise strategic questions on the best financial practices to adopt and ensure the continent’s growth and sustainability.
