Stimulating African excellence: 7th edition of the Choiseul Africa Summit

On March 29 and 30, 2019, the Angolan capital Luanda hosted the seventh edition of the Choiseul Africa Summit, marking a new milestone in the history of this must-attend event. Bringing together influential leaders and the winners of the Choiseul 100 Africa, the summit provided a platform for exchanges to address the opportunities and challenges that are redefining the continent’s economic and social development.

2019 especially represents a pivotal year for Africa, with a rapidly changing global economic environment and ambitious regional reforms, such as the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Thanks to its strategic position and recent economic reforms, particularly in the oil and fiscal sectors, Angola is establishing itself as a key player in reshaping regional economic dynamics. By hosting this event, Luanda has underlined its role as a catalyst in the transformation of sub-Saharan Africa.

Tax advantages and attractiveness in Africa

The panel devoted to “Tax advantages applicable to the advance declaration regime” explored the efforts of African governments to strengthen their tax competitiveness and attract foreign investment, while balancing tax incentives and fiscal sustainability. Discussions also highlighted the impact of new economic policies, such as the AfCFTA, on the development of African value chains and industrial competitiveness on a global scale. How can these reforms reconcile investor expectations with the need for inclusive, sustainable growth ? What approaches will maximize the benefits of regional integration for local economies ? By laying these foundations, the panel offered concrete perspectives for strengthening the continent’s economic attractiveness in the upcoming years.
