On March 14th, 2024, Choiseul Africa Club had the privilege of welcoming Mrs. Vera Songwe to for a breakfast event in Paris. As the first female Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, she provided valuable insights on the economic and strategic challenges facing the African continent in an ever-evolving global landscape.

Drawing on two decades of experience at the World Bank, where she collaborated with prominent figures such as Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and served as the Director of Operations for West and Central Africa, Vera Songwe underscored critical issues including regional economic integration, energy transition, and financing for African SMEs. She also raised the question of how we could accelerate access to funding while fostering innovation and sustainability.
